"Race and Life" A Series on Abortion and Planned Parenthood in the Washington Times This Week PDF Print

This week, the Washington Times ran a series entitled "Race and Life," which featured a series of op-eds written by prominent leaders in the African American community on the devastating impact of abortion, and more specifically the role that Planned Parenthood has played in promoting and performing abortions.

Monday: Dr. Alveda King, niece of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote that

Abortion has taken a gruesome toll on the black community, killing more than AIDS and crime combined. Some 14 million black babies have been aborted since the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in all stages in all 50 states. That's equal to one-third of the number of blacks living today.

Racism and abortion are twins in many other ways.

Racism springs from the lie that certain human beings are less than fully human. It's a self-centered falsehood that corrupts our minds into believing we are right to treat others as we would not want to be treated. So it is with abortion.

Racism oppresses its victims, but also binds the oppressors, who sear their consciences with more and more lies until they become prisoners of those lies. They cannot face the truth of human equality because it reveals the horror of the injustices they commit. While victims die physically, practitioners die spiritually. So it is with abortion.

Racism is a way to gain economic advantage at the expense of others. Slavery and plantations may be gone, but racism still allows us to regard those who may keep us from financial gain as less than equals. So it is with abortion.

A majority, perhaps as many as 75 percent, of abortion clinics are in areas with high minority populations. Abortion apologists will say this is because they want to serve the poor. You don't serve the poor, however, by taking their money to terminate their children.

Tuesday: Day Gardner, President of the National Black Pro-Life Union, wrote

Today, for every black baby born, another black baby is killed by abortion. Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion chain. It has planted its clinics strategically in our urban and minority neighborhoods. This is no accident!

Data from studies by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, and data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), show that a huge majority (experts estimate more than 75 percent) of abortion clinics are located in minority neighborhoods.

Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion provider. It raked in $1 billion last year, including more than $350 million in taxpayer funds. That's right. Tax dollars, in part, fund an organization that gets excited about taking donations earmarked to abort black babies.

Wednesday: Rev. Walter B. Hoye II, the founder and president of Issues4Life Foundation, wrote

[A] black baby is aborted every 72 seconds in this country; that a black baby today has less than a 50-50 chance of being born; and that according to the 2006 U.S. Census, black Americans are no longer replacing themselves.

[S]ince 1973, abortion has eliminated more than 50 percent of black America, their own constituents, and that at this rate, the entire black community in the United States could be wiped out by the year 2100. I was hoping they understood that black American women alone accounted for 37 percent of all abortions in the United States.

[A]bortion is not just another surgical or medical procedure that is hygienic and safe, but that abortion is an intrinsically evil act that gravely violates the dignity of an innocent human being by taking his or her life and gravely wounds the dignity of those who support it. It leaves those who commit it in profound psychological and moral trauma.

[A]bortion is the lie that promises to improve the "quality of life" at the expense of life and that embracing abortion as a necessary social policy to guarantee life would result ultimately in the end of life. I hoped they would share my opinion that the road to prosperity is not paved by sacrificing our posterity.

Planned Parenthood's annual report in April showed a 5.3 percent rise in its abortion business and increased taxpayer funding. [F]orcing taxpayers to fund abortion (an elective procedure) was objectionable, that removing conscience protections from citizens who believed the overwhelming biological evidence for the humanity of the unborn child and that "momma was pregnant with child" was an abomination.

Thursday: Rev. Stephen Broden, pastor of Fair Park Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, wrote

The black community has fought abortion for years. In the 1960s, black leaders resisted Planned Parenthood's attempts to build their death clinics in our community. This amid reports of federally funded state programs seeking to sterilize young black women. Our leaders were our gatekeepers. Pastors and community leaders stood strong in their opposition to these death merchants.

What happened? Why are they now almost unanimously standing with the eugenics community to provide reproductive murder of black women? Running for political office in America these days is expensive, and Planned Parenthood is a multibillion-dollar industry with capital to invest in those who support their bottom line. Whatever reason the president or the Congressional Black Caucus use to abdicate their leadership responsibility to protect our children and community is unacceptable. We demand answers now!

The black pro-life supporters are looking not to reduce the "need" for abortions, we seek to eliminate it altogether.

Friday: Rev. Clenard Childress, a pastor and founder of BlackGenocide.org, wrote

"The Negro cannot win if he chooses to sacrifice the future of his children for immediate comfort and safety." That quote from Martin Luther King epitomizes the state of black America and the perpetuation of its demise by the Obama administration.

Ironically, and tragically, much of the decimation of the black community, by means of betrayal and deceit, is self-imposed. This deliberate and systematic discrimination would not flourish if it were not for willing pawns, duplicitous individuals more concerned about personal political gain than the future of the lives they serve.

Their culpability is disgraceful and deplorable. Their greed for gain works to sustain the status quo of destruction; works to "sacrifice the future of (our) children for immediate comfort and safety."

Blacks make up 12 percent of the U.S. population but 37 percent of abortions. Why? Because self-serving political pawns in the black community continue turning a blind eye, tacitly supporting this genocide for their own immediate aggrandizement. They, thus, secure their own re-elections.
